Charles Claussen Charles Claussen - Regional Manager, Tek-Air Systems, Inc.
Mr. Claussen has been involved with projects ranging from Chemical Labs and Pharmaceutical Labs, to Isolation Rooms and Maximum Containment BSL-4 Labs. He has an extensive background in Building Automation, Industrial Plant Controls, and Process Controls. Charles travels extensively to train and consult with engineers on the methods of flow measurement and its benefits to safe design of all kinds of laboratories. Tek-Air was awarded the ASHRAE AHR Product Innovation award for 2008, for their innovative Accuvalve.

Mark Demyanek Mark Demyanek - Assistant Vice President, Environmental Health and Safety (EHS), Georgia Institute of Technology
Mark leads the EHS Department at Georgia Tech, which is comprised of twenty professionals who guide the institute community in meeting its safety, public health and environmental compliance responsibilities by providing services in Chemical / Laboratory Safety, Bio-safety, Radiation Safety, Hazardous Materials Management, Fire Safety and Occupational Safety. Prior to joining Georgia Tech, Mark was the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Compliance and Operations for the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia (USG) – where he led the effort to develop the USG’s Laboratory Design Criteria. Overall, Mark has 26 years of experience in the EHS field. Mark holds an MS Degree in Technology & Science Policy from Georgia Tech and a BS Degree in Industrial Safety Science from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. He is a Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) and a Certified Safety Professional (CSP), both in comprehensive practice.

Mr. Last has more than 20 years experience in programming, design, commissioning and operating laboratory, cGMP pharmaceutical manufacturing and research animal care facilities. Prior to founding Specialty Operations Solutions (SOS) in 1997, Mr. Last was Senior Director of Operations for a cGMP biologics manufacturing company, leading teams charged with Facilities (Research & cGMP Manufacturing) Operations; Calibration & Metrology; Research Animal Care and Security, Environmental Health & Safety. SOS provides programming, design, financing, sciences integration & quality assurance, veterinary & research animal care support, complete (FDA) regulatory services, commissioning & start up, and operations.

Jerry Percifield Jerry Percifield, AIA – Principal and Senior Laboratory Planner , Lord Aeck Sargent Architecture
With nearly 30 years of experience as an architect, he specializes in the planning and design of science research laboratories and animal facilities for the academic sector; and research and development facilities, technical facilities and pilot development/manufacturing facilities for the pharmaceutical and other life sciences industries. Jerry attended the University of New Mexico, where he received his Master’s degree in architecture and Bachelor’s degree in fine arts. He also holds a certificate in biotechnology research lab design from Harvard University.

Ronald L. Petersen, PhD. Ronald L. Petersen, PhD. - Principal, CPP (Cermak Peterka Petersen, Inc.)
Dr. Petersen will discuss the best practices in exhaust and intake design to ensure toxic fumes do not reenter the building or nearby buildings. These best practices are based on over 25 years experience using numerical and wind modeling methods to provide design information for architects, engineers and building owners. Dr. Petersen is a Certified Consulting Meteorologist. He has served or is serving on committees related to pollutant dispersion and fume reentry for ASHRAE, AMS and A&WMA.

Greg Spiro P.E. LEED AP - Senior Mechanical Engineer for Facilities Design and Construction, Georgia Institute of Technology
Mr. Spiro is a licensed engineer with over 16 years of HVAC systems design experience. For the past 11 years Greg has served as Georgia Tech's Senior Mechanical Engineer for Facilities Design and Construction. Greg has worked with Research Scientists from a wide array of fields in developing their laboratories. Greg has served as project manager, engineer of record, facilities engineer and owner's representative throughout his time at Georgia Tech. Greg is a LEED AP and has taken an active role in promoting and enforcing Georgia Tech's standards and sustainability initiatives.

Ronald Wendorski - Engineering Manager Laboratory Exhaust Systems, Greenheck Fan Company


Deborah Wolfe-Lopez - Laboratory and Chemical Safety Manager, Georgia Institute of Technology
has worked as an Industrial Hygienist in biotech research, aerospace manufacturing, a commercial bakery, and, for the last 8 years, at Georgia Tech where her title is Laboratory and Chemical Safety Manager. She earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology from the University of Arizona and Master of Science in Public Health with an Emphasis in Industrial Hygiene from San Diego State University.

Jon Zboralski - Director of Air Products - ThermoFisher Scientific
Mr. Zboralski has over 30 years experience in the design and development of laboratory furniture and fume hoods. Involved in the development of the ASHRAE 110 tracer gas test. Serves on the SEFA Fume Hood Committee. He has published, author and holds numerous patents on airflow related products.
